Key artistic principles such as composition, line, blending, shape, texture, mark-making, value and harmonious color palettes will be emphasized. With a studied, thoughtful and technically developed artistic practice, students will also learn to identify and develop subject matter within their pieces, expanding upon their work to produce clarified ideas and images. Additional focus areas include working in grayscale, monotones and activating the substrate and using varied tools for expressive effects. By the end, participants should complete one to two finished paintings suitable for display. Your pre-class homework is to choose 3-4 artists who inspire you to explore how to “steal like an artist” and expand your creative repertoire. Participants are encouraged to bring artwork that is in process from the Introductory Workshop with Micki to be further developed. Students with prior experience but not with Micki may register with instructor approval (call Kerry at CCC). Most materials are provided; students should bring 1 pack of 9x11" Arches oil paper or 3 encausticbords or gessoed wood panels (max 12x12"), an apron, roll of paper towel and landscape, gardens or floral themed photo references. A separate $25 supply fee is due to instructor at the start of class. $165 CCC Members / $198 Non-Members
